The Importance of Physical Activity

Physically active children aren’t just healthy children, they’re happy children. Being active helps to foster an active lifestyle and is crucial for both mental and physical development. Exercising regularly can reduce the risk of health conditions such as diabetes and cancer among other illnesses and diseases. Doctors will often recommend physical activity to keep your child thriving and healthy during their younger years.

It’s no secret that physical activity has a positive impact on children particularly when it’s done outdoors.  Let’s take a look at the top few reasons why it is so important and what the benefits are for children of all ages!

Increases Strength and Endurance

When children are active on a regular basis, it can help with developing and strengthening their muscles and overall stamina. Gaining strength through exercise and play has many benefits for children and can lead to muscle growth and development.

Improves Posture

Thanks to modern technology, more and more children have developed poor posture habits and slouch constantly.  This leads to bad posture habits and unwanted aches & pains as they get older.  Exercise can help children with their posture by strengthening their spine and core. Not only can good posture help your child with presentation, confidence and their overall self-image, but it can also help with lowering the risk of injury.

Boosts Mental Health & Wellbeing

We often talk about how exercise can help adults with their mental health and wellbeing but the same goes for kids!  Exercising and being physically active can help to relieve anxiety and stress in children.  It also leads to better sleep patterns.  This is especially true when kids spend time outdoors in the fresh air.

At Dynamo Playgrounds, we’ve been reinventing play for over 30 years.  Our goal to is create games that encourage continuous play that improve health, fitness and the wellbeing of kids of all ages and abilities.

Develops Social Skills

When parents & caregivers incorporate opportunities that encourage physical activity into their child’s lives, it helps to build their social skills. Speding time at the neighbourd playground is one of the easiest ways to keep a child active while letting them have fun and make friends in a social setting.

Helps Maintain a Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight minimizes a child’s likeliness of developing joint problems, shortness of breath, restless sleep, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and more.  Running, jumping, climbing and exploring the ins and outs of a fun playground helps to decrease these health risks and complications in the short term and future.

Gets Kids Outside!

Children spend far too much time in front of a TV screen or a mobile device.  As children spend more and more time with their electronics, they can become dependent on them and fall into habits that foster a more sedentary lifestyle. By giving children the freedom to spend hours outside and occupy themselves, they can find ways to be creative and have fun without any help from their devices.  Spending time on the playground enables children to learn, explore and make friends in real life!

Playing outside and being physically active is important when it comes to the physical health and fitness of a child.  It’s also equally important for their mental and emotional wellbeing and has a lasting and positive effect on kids as they grow into young adults.
