Biggo Swings

Summer is upon us and your local playground is bound to be getting a good workout. As we enjoy these few months of great weather and spending lots of time outdoors, keep in mind these tips to help you enjoy your trip to the park to its fullest.

SOME LIKE IT HOT

While you may get the luxury of heading inside to cool off on those really hot days, your playground doesn’t. It’s always a good idea to check the play area to make sure it isn’t too hot before you play. Younger children’s skin is more sensitive, so they are more at risk. Remember that different materials absorb and transmit back heat at different intensities, so make sure and check the whole area, including the safety surfacing.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED

With winter over, all the bulky winter gear is safely tucked away for next year. However, there is still a need to be careful of clothing becoming entangled on the play structure. Watch out for very loose-fitting clothing, drawstring ties on hoodies, pants, shorts and so forth. Items children bring along with them, such as skipping ropes, can also present a hazard if used inappropriately.

Stay tuned for next week as we look at two more summer safety tips in the playground.
