03 Nov Park Attracts a Truly Diverse Audience
The opening of Parc Simon in Rockland, Ontario was a gala event. Parc Simon is a completely Dynamo playground, featuring the signature Biggo Swings, as well as a Astro rotating net climber and a Genesis stationary net climber. Hundreds turned up to the celebration; including Pierre Lemieux (Federal M.P.), Jean-Marc Lalonde (Provincial M.P.P.), the Mayor Mr. Richard Lalonde and a local Ottawa television news crew. It was a momentous day for Dynamo Playgrounds, seeing their first park installed in this community that is just down the road from the Dynamo Head Office. “There was true excitement in the air from the huge Rockland crowd as they experienced Dynamo games for the first time. It seems that not only children are enjoying this experience. I happened to see an elderly lady take a ride on the Biggo Swing with a big grin on her face as the crowd began to dissipate slightly.” says Brad Collar of Dynamo.
During the festivities, Pierre Lemieux offered a few words: “I’ve done some research on this company Dynamo, and one of their slogans is: ‘new innovative playgrounds for all ages and abilities’. It is quite evident in the equipment that this is the truth; now both the less-abled and fully-abled children can participate at the same time using this ADA Accessible Equipment. When we were young, we never had parks like these to play on, so to me this is a big deal.” At about the same time MPP Jean-Marc Lalonde had this to say: “This park now has between 65 to 100 people every evening; this means that we are investing in the future of our children and adding to the quality of life in this municipality”. Dynamo Playgrounds was proud to be part of this project as we experienced the true satisfaction of contributing to the well being and future of the children in this local community.
It wasn’t until after the opening that the true nature of this park emerged. Mayor Richard Lalonde made this statement to us: “I can’t believe the way our Astro created a hang out place for our high school kids to chat and have their lunch hour. They even step aside when the smaller kids show up at the park for their turn to play”. It was amazing to hear that not only were both young and old able to enjoy the Dynamo Park, but that the teenagers displayed such chivalry that they would refrain from using the equipment while the younger children had their break. Truly the park has not only met and exceeded Rockland’s expectations, but it has brought out some of the best traits of the people in this local community.
